ELED 321 Reading & Language Arts Methods I
This course utilizes a comprehensive approach to explicit literacy instruction and builds upon the knowledge from the prerequisite Foundations of Literacy. Teacher candidates will acquire a deeper understanding of phonological and phonemic awareness. The sound-symbol correspondences of language will be deepened to understand the relationship of phonemic awareness and the phonological system of language to the reading process. This course will focus on word recognition skills as candidates will learn and practice instructional strategies related to phonics and decoding methods. This course has a required lab component with 15 hours of fieldwork. Teacher candidates are required to pass this course with a minimum of a B- or higher. Teacher candidates must successfully complete the lab component to pass this course. LAB: ELED 321L
