ELED 211 Foundations of Literacy

This course provides a scientifically based foundation in the cognitive, linguistic, environmental, cultural, and historical influences on literacy and language development.  Topics include an introduction to reading science and research, the essential components of reading instruction, structured literacy and explicit instruction, language development, word structure, and pre-reading, early literacy concepts and skills.  This course has a required lab component with 15 hours of fieldwork.  Teacher candidates are required to pass this course with a minimum of a B- or higher.  Teacher candidates must successfully complete the lab component to pass this course.  LAB:  ELED 211L
