CYSC 314 Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence

This course introduces foundational concepts in Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a specific focus on applications in the field of cybersecurity.  Students will explore the history and core principles of AI, while learning how machine learning, natural language processing, knowledge representation, and intelligent agents are transforming threat detection, incident response, malware analysis, and cybersecurity automation.  Emphasis is placed on both theoretical understanding and hands-on implementation through cybersecurity-focused labs and projects.  Topics include search and problem-solving strategies for security automation, supervised and unsupervised learning for anomaly detection, neural networks in threat classification, and ethical considerations surrounding AI-driven surveillance and decision-making.  Students will also critically assess the role of AI in adversarial settings and develop an understanding of responsible AI development in cybersecurity contexts.
