HIST 239 American History
A survey of the history of the United States from the pre-colonial era to the present. Through a chronological and thematic approach, students will gain an understanding of the political, economic, and cultural forces that have shaped the nation. Periods covered will include the Colonial Era (1607-1776); the American Revolution (1775-1783); the Early Republic (1783-1820s); the Civil War and Reconstruction (1861-1877); the Gilded Age (1870s-1890s); the Progressive Era (1890s-1920s); the Great War and the Interwar Period (1914-1941); the Second World War (1939-1945): the Cold War and the Civil Rights Movements (1950s-1980s); and the Post-Cold War Era to the Present (1990s-2020s).
