Center for Academic Success
The Center for Academic Success (CAS) includes four main areas: Tutoring, Writing Center, Disability Services (Academic Accommodations), and Academic Coaching.
Tutoring is available in every general education required course as well as many upper-level courses. Individual and group sessions are available.
The Writing Center services include drop-in hours, as well as Teaching Assistants (TAs) assigned to English courses to assist these students enrolled in these courses. The Writing Center is not intended to be a peer editing service, but rather designed to help students become better writers.
Academic Accommodations are available for those with diagnosed disabilities. Those who suspect a disability can be screened in the CAS - and if warranted - given temporary accommodations and a referral for testing with a local psychologist. Incoming students who will need accommodations are encouraged to meet with the Accommodation Specialist (in person or virtually) to ensure a smooth transition to the university.
Academic Coaching is available with a tutor or CAS staff member. This coaching can assist with weekly accountability, catching up after a study lapse, or a one-time study skills training.
The Katherine J. Gribbin Learning Commons (LC) is next door to the CAS office and houses the Writing Center, Tutoring Center, and Pilot Production Studio (a video recording room). The LC is a "one stop shop" for students to study and access academic support. Computers and printers are available in the LC.
