BIOL 362 Environmental Applications for Geographic Information Systems
Introduction to the theory and application of spatial analysis for environmental conservation and planning using geographic information system (GIS) technology in the context of real world conservation problems. This course conbines instruction in GPS flied data collection; ArcGIS use for storage, analysis, interpretation and presentation of spatial data; and remote sensing techniques and their integration with GIS applications. Examines theories of environmental planning at regional and landscape levels and their importance for conservation. Instruction in these skills will be integrated around an environmental project applying GIS techniques to actual conservation problems associated with protecting or restoring degraded environments.
